Since the advent of social media, the connection between people and those around them is no longer limited to face-to-face communication. Before I went to university, I communicated with my classmates, friends and family through QQ and shared my life in the qq zone; after I went to university, I started using WeChat and Weibo; when I arrived in Hong Kong I started using twitter and insgram . These social media provide us with a platform to share life and express opinions. And by “likes” and commenting on others, we can easily interact with friends.
I learned a lot in Social networking. First, during the blogging process, I learned a lot about United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. For the first time, I expressed my views on women ’s rights on social media and began to think about how I should help women fight for rights in the future. Secondly, in the process of interacting with others, I learned about others’ ideas and accepted some criticisms. Third, I completed some programming, and I started to analyze social media from a technical perspective.
In Program Assignments One, I conducted sentiment analysis of my blogs’ comments. The answer is obvious. Most of the comments I received were positive. This is because most of my comments are friends who have a good relationship with me, and they are willing to encourage me through positive comments.
In Program Assignments Two, through the analysis of the social matrix, we easily understood the distance between ourselves and our friends and quantified it.
In short, I am very grateful to the people who helped me in this course, including the professor, TA, and the students who interacted with me. I am very happy in this course!

Through social media analytics, we can clearly understand which companies and jobs have a tendency to be sexist.
-After knowing which types of companies and types of jobs are gender-discriminatory, we can know how we should fight back. We can analyze why these types of companies or these types of positions give priority to men, summarize people’s stereotypes, and then break people’s stereotypes in these areas. This is very important, because the root of gender discrimination lies in the prejudice brought by stereotypes.
Through social media analytics, we can find some women who have encountered gender discrimination.
-After suffering gender discrimination, women will doubt whether they are really inferior to men, will be sad, pessimistic, and negative. We should contact them, help them, encourage them, and heal the wounds in their hearts.
Through social media analytics, we can understand which regions have more serious sex discrimination.
-After knowing which areas have more serious sex discrimination, we can send the survey results to the relevant women’s rights protection organizations, and let these organizations focus on the gender discrimination issues in these areas.
Background
One day, a friend and I talked about my internship in a research institute of a securities company.
He suddenly told me: “Sexism is serious in this position.”
I replied, “What else can I do besides trying hard?”

Current Situation
In recent years, the media has rarely mentioned gender discrimination in employment in China, but this does not mean that this phenomenon does not exist in China. This is a hidden rule and the normal state of real life. We don’t need to do complicated surveys, and we just need to look at the news on the television with our eyes: almost all senior officials in government are male; most senior executives in companies are male.
– Who can help women?
– Law? Education? Or ourselves?
Law on gender discrimination in employment can help us a lot. Occasionally, employers have adopted differential treatment in terms of employment, promotion, compensation, due to the gender differences of employees. In this case, the law on gender discrimination in employment can help us protect our rights. However, sometimes the law brings protective discrimination. Because the law requires some special protection for women at work, and companies worry that this protection will lead to waste of human resources, companies will use various excuses to reject female candidates during the recruitment process.
Education for girls can help women a lot. In some poor areas, people tend to prioritize boys for education, which can lead to girls becoming incompetent in their favorite jobs when they are adults. Institutions in the society provide education for these girls through donations, so that these girls have the opportunity to change their lives.
Finally, women must realize that there are countless possibilities in their lives. Gender discrimination limits some people’s perception of women, but women cannot set limits on themselves.
